How toilets get clogged

Understanding why your toilet gets blocked up is a preventive measure against a future blockage, and it keeps your plunger stored away because you will never need it.

Why you need an immediate fix

Blocked toilets never leave anything good to be desired. A blocked toilet leaves dirty water in the commode as well as a horrible stench. The wastewater can even overflow when it doesn’t flow at all. When your toilet is blocked and overflows, your restroom floor becomes messed up with wastewater. When either of these occurs, it’s time to act quickly. Contact us for plumbing services in Sydney today.

Unblocking a restroom in Sydney could also be as simple as employing a toilet plunger or toilet auger. However, some blocked toilets are signs of a much bigger problem further down the road within the sewer drain.

These situations may however require a more specialized blocked toilets solution. Our licensed plumbers carry the most effective equipment to assess the explanation for the restroom blockage and recommend simple solutions to ensure your toilet gets unclogged quickly.

Do-It-Yourself Tips

There are certain actionable tips you can try to unblock the toilet and get the toilet water draining smoothly.

How to dissolve blocked toilets caused by toilet paper:

Manufacturers make toilet paper in such a way that it easily breaks up and dissolves in water. This is possible except when too much toilet paper fills a tiny space where it creates a gummy clog. A quick example, stuffing too much toilet paper in your toilet commode may clog the toilet drain. In this case, there are certain things you can do to get the water flowing again.

  • Step 1: Clear out every item that you may have stored in your toilet. To avoid staining them with filth while you get down to work
  • Step 2: Next, open the seat of your toilet and support it against the toilet tank. Doing so will make it easier to work on the tissue paper clog.
  • Step 3: Apply pressure to the commode using a plunger. Ensure the cup covers the toilet drain opening. Start plunging the toilet by holding the plunger in your hands and work it downward and upward over the toilet drain opening. The downward and upward movements of the plunger cup create a suction that pulls and pushes the clog. The toilet tissue is dissolved once the toilet bowl empties upon removing the plunger.
  • Step 4: Flush your toilet to confirm whether the paper is completely dissolved.
  • Step 5: In case the paper doesn’t dissolve after using a plunger, then you can try to dissolve it with the help of a toilet auger. To do this, insert the barbed or hooked end of an auger into the opening of the toilet drain. Push it down the drain and stop when you notice some resistance. – Noticing a resistance is an indicator that you’ve reached the clog. You should rotate the handle and continue pushing the auger against the stuck toilet paper to disintegrate it.
  • Step 6: Remove the auger and try flushing the toilet and check whether the water drains smoothly. If not, work the auger again.

Plunging down a blocked toilet could be pretty messy, especially when the wastewater is overflowing. Follow these safe steps to unblock blocked toilets in Sydney.

  • Step 1: Plunging will splash wastewater and you wouldn’t want the wastewater to splash on other items. We advise that you place towels at the base of your toilet.
  • Step 2: Fold the skirt of the plunger from inside. This will create a tighter seal at the bottom opening of the toilet commode. Once you’re done folding the skirt, use the plunger to pump the bowl opening at the bottom vigorously for about six times. Take some rest and repeat for another six times.
  • Step 3: In case you’ve forced enough water through the bowl and you’re still unable to create a good suction with a plunger, then you can control the water amount in the toilet bowl by simply lifting the toilet flush valve from inside the tank.
  • Then try plunging again. Upon thinking that the clog has cleared, try flushing the toilet again.

How to Unblock Blocked toilets with Auger

The auger or “plumbers snake” like it’s commonly called is made up of a thin, long metal or wire that is inserted into a clogged toilet drain. A toilet auger comes with small hooks at the end inserted into the toilet drain. These hooks are to assist in breaking down clogs. Thus, inserting a toilet auger into the toilet drain will assist in breaking up the stuck toilet paper and allow it to dissolve in water.

  • Step 1: Take the end of your closet auger and put it at the bottom opening of the bowl. The tip of the auger should be fully withdrawn. It usually has a rubber boot/sleeve that protects the porcelain. The tip should face backward and upwards, that’s the direction that the trap takes.
  • Step 2: Rotate the auger clockwise by the handle while pushing the rod downwards into the trap. Then work the auger back and forward. The rubber sleeve should be kept firmly pressed in the toilet bowl. If you feel any resistance, it means you have snagged the clog. Now rotate the auger in a counterclockwise direction by the handle while withdrawing the cable alongside the clog.
  • Step 3: Withdraw the auger fully upon recovering the object. Although this might be a little bit frustrating, it’ll be easier than removing the entire toilet to unclog it.
